The Fitness Hub – Bandaragama began in July 2022, not in a gym or sports complex, but on the footpath around Wavita Lake in Bandaragama. At first, it was just a personal fitness activity. Over time, it grew into an organized fitness club that brings together people of different ages, backgrounds, and genders from the community.
The journey started with three individuals—myself, Lalith, and Morries—who met regularly for morning workouts to stay active and healthy. During one of these sessions, we had an unexpected meeting that changed our direction. We met Mr. Subasiri, an Army Triathlon Coach, who noticed our training and decided to guide us. This chance meeting, recorded in our first video in July 2022, became an important turning point for The Fitness Hub.
In the beginning, we trained only on weekends. Under the guidance of Coach Subasiri, we learned discipline, proper techniques, and the importance of consistency. We also had the opportunity to train with the Army Triathlon team. As our interest and dedication increased, we slowly increased the number of training days each week.
After Coach Subasiri retired from active service, we moved our training sessions from the Wavita Lake footpath to the Bandaragama Public Ground. This move marked an important milestone in our journey. We shifted from occasional training to a full seven-day routine, and The Fitness Hub began to develop into a well-structured fitness club rather than just a casual group.
By November 2025, The Fitness Hub – Bandaragama had grown to 48 active members. Our members come from different communities and age groups, and include both men and women. Our goal is not only to improve physical fitness, but also to support mental well-being and build strong relationships within the community.
Our activities extend beyond regular ground training. We organize beach workouts, street running events, pool training sessions, and hiking trips. In addition, we take part in cultural celebrations and social service activities, such as helping people in need through donations. These efforts show our belief that fitness is not only about strength, but also about teamwork, kindness, and social responsibility.
This journey would not have been possible without the guidance and support of our coach, Mr. Subasiri. We are deeply thankful to him and his team for teaching us discipline, determination, and purpose, and for inspiring the younger generation.
From a simple workout on a footpath to a growing fitness community, The Fitness Hub – Bandaragama shows that small beginnings, hard work, and the right guidance can lead to meaningful success.
